BeSafe Technologies created the ActiveShield building safety platform in order to save lives.

To ensure it worked at its best, BeSafe teamed up with Microsoft.

Connecting thousands of sensors, cameras, and other devices with Microsoft’s Azure cloud services, the solution combines an emergency notification system with real-time digital floor plans of the building. Security can quickly share vital information and respond more efficiently to crisis situations in schools, hospitals, public buildings, and more.
Devices such as cameras and alarms are shown in real-time. Responders can tap on a camera to view its live video feed. Architectural information, such as the location and even the material composition of doors and windows allows police and fire to respond to the situation in the best way possible.
Combined with Insight Connected Safety, ActiveShield features intelligent two-way communications capabilities and real-time alerts. Gunshot sensors can be set to automatically alert local law enforcement. Notifications can be broadcast on a mobile app to teachers, SRO’s, or school administrators, and information including evacuation instructions can be sent to connected devices such as color-coded light bulbs, and digital displays in hallways and classrooms.
Aldine Independent School District (ISD) in Houston, Texas embarked on a phased rollout of Connected Safety with ActiveShield with ongoing assistance from BeSafe and Insight.
With around 69,000 students and 90 buildings, Aldine ISD knew that a cloud based IoT solution was the right path for digital transformation of its emergency response strategy. Insight takes care of deployment and maintenance, and Azure cloud services ensures the school district can avoid costly investment in server and storage hardware. All of the computing power is in the cloud.
“Because everything is on Azure, all I need to do is control access. It’s easier to manage, and I don’t have to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in hardware and staff to get it going. Now, we can work more on leaning into the future of cloud technologies.”
